About Us

We are looking for new members who take their christian faith seriously and are part of a church congregation. If you like to play golf we would love you to join us. If the sun shines the courses are great, the company is special, individually the game we play is variable, but the food is good. Take a moment to see what joining us means.

Our Meetings

Who are we.

The Followers is a golf society that has been around for over ten years. It is made up of people who have a positive attitude towards the Christian faith and belong to a church congregation. They enjoy playing golf and the occasionally day playing with likeminded people such as those within the society. Our continuing hope is that having formed this society its members feel happy and confident to invite a none church going friend to a fixture and see their preconceived ideas about those who take the Christian faith seriously gently challenged by mixing with us. We are not a highly competitive society so those who are new to the game along with those who have been playing for a longer period are welcomed to be part of the group. We are not from any one denominational group but find we are made up of a wide range of different denominational groups. Member come from as far away as North and East London as well as the Southend area but we are mostly from Mid Essex. We hope that setting up this website we may see a number of new members joining us. We felt this would help us to achieve two things. Firstly it would be good for the further development of our society and a blessing for those in church life who enjoy playing golf. Secondly the overall size of turn out at any given fixture which is around twelve does not enable us negotiate the best deal with individual clubs nor plan for special events or short golfing breaks.

How often do we meet and what does it cost?

Although it would be lovely to see more members at each fixture we are aware from the past that for financial reasons and work related responsibilities this is not possible for all. Normally there would be around eight fixture each year for members to book into play at if they wished. As an exception this year we have five fixtures planned. Clubs are raising their prices this year in general. However we hope that we can keep things to around fifty pounds per fixture. This includes coffee and bacon rolls before a round of golf plus a two course meal to end the day. There is NO annual fee to belong to the group…

Where are the fixtures situated.

We play mainly in the Essex area but in the past we have had fixtures in the South Suffolk area at Stoke by Nayland and Newton Green. This year because of the financial situation we have tried to be as economically practical as possible and rather than the usual eight fixtures we only have five at the cheaper end of the scale so that as many as possible may be able to join in. They will be at Braxted Park, Newton Green, Clacton, Forrester Park and for our final fixture we are back at Braxted Park.

What to do if you would like to explore joining us.

You may have questions to ask so email our secretary John Davis at followersgolfuk@gmail.com with a contact phone number he can contact you on.You can ask your questions and he can explain how your name can be added to any of the fixtures. If you want to be circulated with the details and come along after that, he will add your name to the groups email address list and you can flag up that you want to come along and join the group on that day. It's important to remember if you do that and your name goes on the list to play you are honourable obliged to pay up if for any reason you are not able to play. This is because clubs, particularly at the present time hold the society financially responsible for all the booking they make. In the past most clubs did not do this but it is now becoming more commonplace and we do NOT have funds to cover none attendees fees.

“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”
